The Big Bang from Evolution

Mekhong group at down the hatch

Big Bang Friday

Started out another night on the job at our home away from home, Down the Hatch. We got sooo many free shots and beer. Apparently on fridays everyone wants to promote their brand there. So if you dont mind whoring yourself out to what ever brand is promoting you can get free shot tee-shirts and drinks. Last night was Coors light and Mekhong- the spirit of Thailand. I have never heard of Mekhong before. Besides the comical name the rum was ok, but it was free and they gave us shirts so that's great in my book. But that is only the beginning of the night.

Next stop Evolution (68 2nd Ave on the corner of 4th st) . It has finally happened. TBA has officially named their first drink. I cannot tell you exactly what is in it but I know I saw about 5 different liquors and the name says it all.. "The Big Bang". Everyone should check out this place and ask Joe( one of the bartenders featured in the video below) for a big bang. Its a chill place. Nice new looking , cheap drinks and bartenders that will entertain you while you drink . It's usually empty but more people should def go check it out. It's very modern and nice but not pretentious like other nice lounges. You will never have a problem getting in and its nice enough to bring a date after dinner.

"We have to know you to get in here"

You might think that is something you would hear from some high class exclusive club ... not a dive bar where the bathrooms look like someone released themselves all over the walls. Seriously why are the walls wet all the time. I am referring the dive bar Continental. The only thing they have going for them is their 5 shots of $10 special. Oh sorry let me correct myself ; 5 watered down shots for $10. I may not be a light weight when it comes to drinking but the lightest of light weights can go there and down 7 of these so called shots. You would be better off paying full price for one shot at any other bar( possible cooper 35 one block down where shots are still only $4-$7 ). But lets get back to the case in point. Anyone that has ever been to a bar on St. Marks in the village will see how rediculous this is... Dont get me wrong I am not mad that we did not go in because I only wanted to go see if we could get in and piss since we have been rejected from this place other times. A few time it was a bit of racism, you know your pants are too baggy even though we have wore the same jeans other times to this place and to actual legit clubs/lounges. We are far from a group that lets our pants "sagg" . So for this place to have 4 african american bouncers outside rejecting people from an moderately empty bar solely on some arbitary discrimatory bases. "We have to know you for you get get in here" says the bouncer. We reply but if you dont let us in how will you know us. " Guess It's a catch 22" say the bouncer. I found this exchange comical at best. They did the same thing to the non-minority couple that tried to get in before us, so i have to rule out any change of racial discrimination.

I have lost anything that was left resembling respect for the water down dive bar with a manager that likes to dress like Raiden from mortal combat. The real part that bother me is what has the world come to when a grimy looking dirve bar not offering comsumer anything worth their money ( remember because the 5 shot deal is not a deal because they are watered down) is able to be so picky with the people the let in. I dont mind getting rejected from an ultra trendy night club like Ava lounge at the Dream hotel. Just take my advice , if you are in the east village around St. Marks , do not waste you time at Continental. Even if you go on a rare day and they are not picking an arbitary reason to make themselves feel like a real bar its not worth the money and might as well be Indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark if you want to go the the bathroom there. Seriously not a good time

JUST SALADS have awesome salad selections even tho they are overpriced...recently had a wrap and it was very filling...the portions are soo big you can eat it for 2 meals...

TRUCK CART FOOD on bleeker st and la guardia st is awesome!!! their lamb over rice and cheeseburgers are delicious after a night of drinking...no hangover guarantee=)
going drinking on a weeknight at CHEAP SHOTS in the east village is awesome!
its not crowded and the deals are great! pitchers are as low as $6.50
the bartenders are generous and nice...one has a fobby accent and the other likes to wear mid drifts with a not so hot stomach...

thursday night drinking at Calico Jack's is full of surprises...they have a $5 deal where you can drink unlimited beer from 9-10pm....bartenders dance on top of the bar and goes crazy over "I'm on a boat!" at one point of the song, the guys would sit on top of the bar and pretend to row a boat...totally hilarious
one more thing...they have a super cute bartendar who dances like a stripper...its like being a stripclub without the cover charge
